![]() From the first sight of the Plantation, the history and provenance of this fine old plantation home is almost palpable. We shall return.“Frankly Scarlett,” the Inn at Meander Plantation is the best. Thanks, again, to the Inn at the Meander Plantation for creating such a memorable experience. Well done, Chef! And finally, a welcoming staff (including a Golden Retriever named Callie) made staying appreciated and pleasant. ![]() Most importantly, you felt as if you were sufficiently fed. If you understand fine dining, you will not be disappointed. The meals delivered an uncompromising and well prepared composure without the ever unnecessary character of pretentiousness. A four course serving (palate intermission included) with Virginia wine pairings was the pride of our already enjoyable day. After returning from a long afternoon of wine tastings from nearby vineyards using "Free Tasting" coupons that were complimentary of the Inn, a candle lit dinner of fine measure awaited. So delicious, it is as if you were opening a gift. Upon request a wonderfully delectable gourmet lunch "picnic" basket can be prepared for you before your day of exploring the region begins. Freshly prepared fruit with a gourmet breakfast was a consistent staple. Everything from spacious tiled rainfall showers, high thread count bed sheets with feather downed pillows for absolute divine restfulness to the seemingly trivial room provided coffee that features Starbucks! The meals provided were anything but "continental". Moving indoors, the Inn provided rapturous comfort in accommodations. From walking the same grounds that once resided a Colonial that commanded a young army officer named George Washington (Perhaps you've heard of him?) and best of friends to Peter Jefferson - the father of our nations third president, to awe-striking sunsets behind the mountain ranges that are as far as the eye can see. When compared to other bed and breakfasts, my wife and I were exceedingly pleased to discover this wonderful secret among secrets. The uninterested, unwelcoming attitude of the hosts at this bed and breakfast was in marked contrast to to the welcoming, friendly demeanor at the other two bed and breakfasts at which we stayed on this trip. A couple of the gardners saw us lugging our suitcases along the rough and slippery pathway and hastened to help. It appeared that they were in the midst of getting ready for a private fancy dinner party that night and had no time for guests. Finally one ot the owners appeared.no smile, no welcome, curt and businesslike. As a matter of fact, we could find noone to sign us in when we arrived so we had to wait around, dripping. We received absolutely no help getting our luggage into our room. We arrived in the late afternoon in the middle of a driving rain. I'm glad, because it was much more expensive than the fantastic dinner we had for less at another restored plantation just down the road. We were there mid-week so didn't have dinner there. The young wait staff was entusiastic and helpful. The breakfasts were fine, though not out of the ordinary. It must be difficult to keep maintenance on a house this old. The rooms are interesting, tho a little down at the heels. This inn has a beautiful location in the rolling Virginia countryside. again, it was outstanding!! (I am running out of positive adjectives to describe it!) If you don't end up staying there, at least go there for the dinner. I can't say enough great things about this place. No questions asked, they let me store what I pumped in a small refrigerator in their main kitchen since there was no fridge in our room. As a nursing mother taking a little vacay from the baby, I pumped throughout the day. I was coming down with a cold and fever while there and they supplied me with medicine when I asked them. The hospitality from everyone was amazing. Each glass of wine was a generous pour and perfectly complimented the food. I contacted them ahead of time about specific dietary needs, and the options on their menu were tailored to what I shared with them. We did the wine pairing and 5 course meal for dinner. The room was very spacious, the beds were comfortable, and the robes they provided were plush and enveloping! They called to have massage therapists come to our room for massages right after breakfast. ![]() We had the chance to sit outside with a glass of wine one evening before dinner and just enjoy the mountain view. It was beautiful, relaxing, and fun! The grounds were gorgeous. My sister and I came here for a little beginning of the week girls getaway.
